HandStep Toolbox provides a set of standard utilities, built on top of Afaria.
The tools are divided into two packages, basic and advanced. The package you need depends on the complexity of your mobile solution.

Automatically populates ActiveSync settings on Client device with user name. Active Sync user name is set to Afaria Client user name. |
Used in conjunction with Configuration Manager and Session Manager to set up Active Sync "out of the box" for a new user. |

Apply XML Script |
Apply settings to a device via XML provisioning. |
Used to configure a device to conform to a corporate standard. |

Owner Info |
Automatically sets owner info on device. Extracts user information from Active Directory (or other LDAP source) and populates the owner info placed on the today screen of Windows Mobile devices. |
Used to ensure that all mobile device are running with unique identifying owner information. Logs and reports then become more meaningful, with users referred by their name identifiers rather than device serial number or IMEI of device. |

Afaria Launcher |
Checks on device start-up whether previous Afaria Client connection attempt failed. If so, Afaria Client is launched and attempts to contact Afaria Server at next available online connection. |
Used in situations where Afaria would not automatically start up, e.g. after ROM or other device upgrades. |

Autorun |
Create a script on an SD card which will automatically run a sequence of commands on insertion. |
Can be used to rebuild a wiped or damaged device by forcing installation of key applications and settings. |

HandStep Installer |
Checks pre-requisites and versioning to make conditional installations. |
Ensures that an installation has all required files and processes in place and at the correct version. |

Kill And Reset |
Remotely reset or kill processes and applications on a device. |
Used to ensure that no unwanted processes are running before an installation. Used to force a reset where required during or after an installation. |

NTP Client |
Synchronise the device date and time with a central server. |
Used to ensure that all mobile users are working to the same time. |

Function Selector |
Allows mobile users to choose their own group/organisation for use with Afaria Groups. |
Used where the Afaria administrator does not know, or it is too time consuming to set up, the group to which each user should belong. Typically used where no Active Directory grouping is employed. |

Version Info From File Name |
Extracts version information from a given file on device. |
Used to gather information to better plan and configure installations and upgrades. |

Apply Settings Per Network Operator |
Applies XML provisioning settings based on the operator of the SIM card. |
Useful when enterprises have more than one operator or are in a transition from one to another. A single Autorun SD card or channel can support all users. |

Contacts Importer |
Imports contacts from any source into device Outlook contacts list from Afaria server without the need for a connection to Exchange Server. |
Useful when users share a limited number of "emergency" or important phone numbers / contacts. |
|
MD5 Dumper |
Creates a dump file containing the MD5Hash of all files on a device. By comparing subsequent dump files from same device, changed files can be detected. |
Used to plan software rollout and upgrades where only changed files need to be distributed. |

OTA Install |
Allows an OTA installation to be quickly rolled out to an Afaria Server. |
Used to speed up deployment of an over the air installation to Afaria in a matter of minutes, a dramtic improvement. |

Radio Controller |
Turns on or off device radios (phone, wifi, Bluetooth) remotely. |
Allows administrators to selectively control power to specified radios. |

Set USB Charge |
Sets USB Charge setting on HP iPAQs the device. |
Allows administrators to preserve battery performance by setting battery charge speed. |
|
Sh Reg Keys |
Display the registry keys and values on an Afaria Server or Administrator installation. |
Used to quickly determine version and hotfixes in use on current installation for maintenance and troubleshooting purposes. |
|
SIMLock |
Checks on if the SIM card in the device has changed and if so hard resets the device, after reporting the new phone number/IMEI number to a central service. |
Used in situations Afaria Security Manager is not used and the devices needs protection from theft. |
Basic: The basic package consists of basic tools that will benefit all companies, regardless of size, number of mobile users or complexity of the mobile solution.
Advanced: The advanced package consists of the basic tools plus several advanced tools, used primarily by companies with advanced mobile solutions.
